Bidding
How does BidMadness work?
It's easy!
1. Sign Up
2. Add funds (BidBucks) to your Money Box using PayPal and Direct Deposit (1 BidBuck = $1)
3. Choose an item you would like to bid on
4. Confirm your bid and Admin Fee details, and place your bid
5. The aim is to place the Highest Unique Bid of all the bids at auction close.
6. If your bid is the Highest Unique Bid then you are the Winning Bidder and the Winning Bid Amount is charged to your Money Box accountTake a look at the following example:
iPod Nano 4GB
Recommended Retail Price: $359
Admin Fee: $2.00
Bid Increment: $0.01
Max. Bid Amount: $3.00
Max. No. of Bids: 300
Auction Start Date: 23 July 2006
Auction Closing Date: 30 July 2006
At the end of the auction the top ten bids may look like this:
Bid 1: $3.00
Bid 2: $3.00 Not Unique Bid
Bid 3: $3.00
Bid 4: $2.50
Bid 5: $2.50
Bid 6: $2.40 Highest Unique Bid
Bid 7: $1.80
Bid 8: $1.80
Bid 9: $1.50 Unique Bid, but not Highest
Bid 10: $1.30
and so on....
The iPod Nano is awarded to Bid No.6 as it is the Highest Unique Bid. This Winning Bidder would have to pay a total of only $4.40, that is, $2.40 (Bid Amount) + $2.00 (Admin Fee).

This seems too good to be true. What's the catch?
There is no catch. You really can purchase products for a fraction of their normal retail price.

How much does it cost to bid?
Each bid you place on a Standard, Rookie Auction, Mania and Hidden Auction will only cost a small non-refundable Admin Fee. Each item's Admin Fee is clearly stated on the bidding page and on the Bidding Confirmation Page. The Admin Fee is kept low and typically range from $0 - $10.00.
Multiple successive bids on the same item will attract a discount off the original Admin Fee amount. So the more you bid the lower your Admin Fee becomes. If you win the auction then you pay the Highest Unique Bid amount in addition to the Admin Fee charged to make the bid. And remember, we provide FREE Shipping to your door Australia wide!
What is the difference between a Highest Unique Bid, Unique Bid and Not Unique Bid?
Highest Unique Bid: A bid that is thehighest amount and differentfrom any other bid amount for that specific auction.
Unique Bid: A bid that is different (but not the highest) from any other bid amount for that specific auction.
Not Unique: A bid that is thesame as another bidfor that specific auction.
For example, in the following auction 3 people have bid $3. Even though they are the highest bid amounts, their bids are Not Unique. Both bids at 9 and 10 have a bid status of a Unique Bid because they are the only people who have bid those amounts. The bid amount of $2.40 is not the highest bid in the auction ($3 is the highest bid) but it is the Highest Unique Bid because no other bidder has bid a higher unique amount. The Highest Unique Bid is deemed to be the Winning Bid.
Bid 1: $3.00
Bid 2: $3.00 Not Unique Bid
Bid 3: $3.00
Bid 4: $2.50
Bid 5: $2.50
Bid 6: $2.40 Highest Unique Bid
Bid 7: $1.80
Bid 8: $1.80
Bid 9: $1.50 Unique Bid, but not Highest
Bid 10: $1.30 Unique Bid, but not Highest
...and so on.
^ TopWho is eligible to join and bid?
Anyone above the age of 18 can join and bid. To start bidding instantly you must also have a valid VISA, MasterCard or PayPal Account with a valid Australian or New Zealand billing and delivery address. Members outside Australia are more than welcome to join, but remember that all pricing is in Australian ($AUD) Dollars only. There will be a shipping charge for deliveries outside Australia.
How many times can I bid per auction?
You can bid on Standard, Mania, Rookie, Hidden and Bonus Auctions as many times as you like! There are no restrictions on how many bids you make unless the auction has a BID LIMIT applied. From time to time, BidMadness will apply a Maximum Bid Limit to selected auctions. This means that on these auctions, each member will only be allowed to make as many bids as the bid limit allows.
For example, if an auction has been listed with a Maximum Bid Limit of 10, then each member can only place 10 bids on the selected product. Once 10 bids have been made then that member cannot place any more bids on that item.
Can I bid on more than one auction at a time?
You betcha! There are no limits to the number of auctions you may bid on or win.
Are there any bidding clues?
Yes. BidMadness is the only Unique Bid Auction site that provides you with bidding clues. When you submit your bids the page will refresh with a clue to let you know how far away you are from the Highest Unique Bid (HUB). The closer you get to the HUB, the better the clue.
The various clues will appear whenever you make Unique Bids. If you make a bid the same as someone else you will see a message saying: Not Unique Bid - Try Again! If you manage to find the Highest Unique Bid the message will say: “Direct Hit! You are now the Highest Unique Bidder”. You will continue to see this message as long as you are the Highest Unique Bidder.
Is there a limit to how many bidders may bid on a single auction?
No. The number of bidders is not limited to any maximum number. However the number of bidders is influenced by the Maximum Number of Bids on the auction. Each auction states the Maximum Number of Bids which will be accepted. So if an auction states the Maximum number of Bids as 100 then it effectively means it could take 100 single bids from 100 bidders. Or, if 10 people each bid 10 times then the auction would only result in 10 bidders.
Therefore, the more times YOU bid the greater YOUR chances of winning!
When can I submit bids?
Members can bid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as long as an auction is still open.
Can I view the results and winning bids?
Yes. Everyone can view the winners and results of all auctions. We list the amount of every bid, the winner's ID and the Highest Unique Bid that won. The results of each auction is displayed on the Results Pageas soon as an auction has closed. The Winning Bidder with the Highest Unique Bid will be highlighted. All participants of the auction are notified by email when the Results are posted on the site.
Are you able to see what the highest bid is during a live auction?
Other online auction sites allow you to see what the highest bid is so you are able to determine if you would like to bid high enough to win the item. BidMadness is similar to a silent auction, all bids are hidden until the auction closes. The only clue given to bidders is the status of their own bid, that is, whether the bid is Not Unique, Unique but Not Highest or Highest Unique Bid. Once the auction closes, all member's bids will be displayed on the Results Page.
Can I see other member's bids during a live auction?
No. This is a "blind" auction and all bidding information is kept in the strictest confidence. Only the auction supervisors and auditors will have access to bid amounts while an auction is live.
Can I cancel my bids?
Once a bid has been accepted by the database it cannot be changed or cancelled.
Can I challenge the results of an auction?
BidMadness decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. No responsibility accepted for late, lost or misdirected bids. BidMadness is not liable for any bids which could not be lodged due to internet or server errors.
When is a bid deemed valid and accepted?
All bids are deemed to be valid when they are received and logged by the BidMadness server and NOT at the time of transmission by the participant.
For example, if an auction is set to close at 10:00pm and a member places a bid at 9:59:45pm, it may actually take more than 15 seconds for the bid to be received by the server and logged into the BidMadness auction database. If the bid was received and logged at 10:00:15pm the it would be deemed an invalid bid as it is 15 seconds after the listed closing time of the auction.
BidMadness is not held responsible for the speed and reliability of its members computers or network providers. It is up to the member to ensure bids are made within the time period and allowing for reasonable time for network and internet connections to send and receive data.
Can I bid higher than the Maximum Bid Amount?
The stated Maximum Bid Amount is the highest figure you are allowed to bid. Your bid must be equal to or less than the Maximum Bid Amount. Bids greater than the Maximum Bid Amount will not be accepted.
How do I know if my bid was successfully submitted or accepted?
Once you submit a bid a confirming message will be displayed. You can review your bids by clicking on the "My Bid Summary" link in the members "My Account" section.
Auction Status
How is an auction Winner determined?
On the "typical" auction sites it is the highest bidder who wins. Most people get so caught up in winning that they actually end up paying more for the product than it is worth. BidMadness makes sure that all our auction items are priced between 90-95% off the retail price.
When an auction closes the BidMadness system identifies the Highest Unique Bidder; management confirms this conclusion and contacts the Winning Bidder via email informing them they have won. The Winning Bidder is awarded the right to purchase the product at the Winning Bid Amount. If the Winning Bidder is unable to complete the transaction, the process of selecting the Winning Bidder will repeat, excluding the original Winning Bidder.
What happens if there is no Highest Unique Bid?
In the unlikely event that an auction closes with every amount being selected more than once resulting in no Highest Unique Bid, the Highest Unique Bid would be the highest bid amount with the least amount of bids placed on it, with the winner being the member who selected that amount first.
For example:
Bid 1: $12.00 (10 Jan 07 - 12:34:05pm)
Bid 2: $12.00 (10 Jan 07 - 2:05:25pm)
Bid 3: $12.00 (13 Jan 07 - 7:08:45am)
Bid 4: $11.30 (09 Jan 07 - 4:01:23pm) - WINNING BID
Bid 5: $11.30 (12 Jan 07 - 6:38:05pm)
Bid 6: $7.80
Bid 7: $7.80
Bid 8: $7.80
Bid 9: $7.80
Bid 10: $5.70
Bid 11: $5.70
Do I get notified when an auction starts or closes?
We do not send out notifications when an auction starts. However, all bidders in an auction are notified by email when the auction has closed. We also send other automated emails informing you of:
Our BidMadness Newsletter subscribers will be the first to know of the latest new auctions by email...So subscribe now!
Can I see the results of the auction once it has closed?
Yes. The results of each auction will be available for viewing on the Results Page as soon as an auction closes. The Winning Bid will be highlighted.
When does an auction close?
An auction can close when:
- The Maximum Number of Bids have been received, or
- The auction has reached its prescribed close date and time, or
- The auction has been cancelled by BidMadness
An AUCTION CLOSED logo will appear on that item and an email is sent to all bidders stating the Winning Bid Amount and that the auction has closed.
Why has the Auction been extended past its original close date?
An auction can be extended when the total number of bids have not reached 60% of the Maximum Number of Bids defined for that auction.BidMadness has the discretion to extend the auction as many times as necessary until 60% of the Maximum Number of Bids have been reached. Once the 60% level has been reached there will be no further extensions.
Why has the Auction closed when the close date hasn’t arrived yet?
An auction can close prior to the stated close date and time when the Maximum Number of Bids required has been reached.
Why has the Auction been cancelled?
Sometimes what we think is a great product for our members turns out to be not so popular for one reason or another. So, when an auction does not receive at least 60% of the Maximum Number of Bids required, even after having its original close date extended, BidMadness reserves the right to cancel the auction up to 30 minutes before the stated auction closing time.
All members who participated in a cancelled auction will have all admin fees refunded into their BidMadness account. Any Bonus Points earned while bidding on the auction will be retained in the members account.
As much as we want our members to win, we also need to achieve a minimum level of bids for the auction to proceed to its close date. We regret any disappointment this may cause, but rest assured that ALL Bonus Points that have been earned while bidding on the auction remain in your account and ALL Admin Fees charged to you for bidding on this auction are refunded in full.
Will items from cancelled Auctions be re-listed again?
It is highly likely that items featured in cancelled auctions will be re-listed again at a future date. However next time we may list it with a different Admin Fee or Maximum Number of Bids in order to find the right level which our members are happy with.
Does BidMadness have control over the bidding process?
No. BidMadness support, staff and affiliates do not have access to influence the bidding process or bids made by members during the auction. Once the auction has closed, the site automatically displays the Winner based upon the auction rules. All bids are then made public for all members to view. BidMadness is open to auditing by third-party compliance specialists at any time.
How can you assure me that nobody in your staff has access to the bidding which they can then tell a friend or colleague, who can then use this information to their advantage?
The site has been set up so that no-one, including staff or administrators have access to change or influence the bids during an auction. As per the terms and conditions of the site, employees or anyone associated with BidMadness are not entitled to place bids or be members of the site.
We encourage any users who suspect fraudulent activity to report it immediately to the BidMadness team.
My bid attempt keeps failing or I get an error message, what do I do?
There may be a technical fault, there may be internet connection problems or the BidMadness server may be experiencing difficulties which we are not aware of or are beyond our control.
If you experience any difficulties placing your bids please send an email to:
info "at" bidmadness.com.au (replace "at" with @ when you send your email) and tell us what the problem is. We will attempt to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
Fees
How much does it cost to become a member?
What is the Admin Fee?
The Admin Fee is an amount charged for each Bid placed on a particular auction. The unit of currency we use on BidMadness is called a BidBuck. 1 BidBuck is equal to $1AUD.
How much is the Admin Fee?
The Admin Fee will vary per auction item and is listed clearly within each auction item bid box. Typically, an Admin Fee will be between $0 - $10, where 1 BidBuck = $1.
Admin Fee Schedule for Standard, Rookie & Hidden Auctions:
1st Bid = FULL ADMIN FEE is charged
2nd Bid = 10% Discount off the original Admin Fee
3rd Bid = 20% Discount off the original Admin Fee
4th Bid = 30% Discount off the original Admin Fee
5th Bid = 50% Discount off the original Admin Fee
6th Bid = FULL ADMIN FEE is charged
7th Bid = 10% Discount off the original Admin Fee
8th Bid = 20% Discount off the original Admin Fee
9th Bid = 30% Discount off the original Admin Fee
10th Bid = 50% Discount off the original Admin Fee
...and continue to repeat this pattern for further bids.
Example:
Admin Fee: $2.00
1st Admin Fee = $2.00
2ndAdminFee = $1.80
3rdAdminFee = $1.60
4thAdminFee = $1.40
5thAdminFee = $1.00
6thAdminFee = $2.00
7thAdminFee = $1.80
8thAdminFee = $1.60
9thAdminFee = $1.40
10thAdminFee = $1.00...and so on.
Free Auctions- These auctions are totally free! No admin fees apply, therefore no discounts apply!
Mania Auctions- Discounts do not apply to Mania Auctions. The full Admin Fee is charged on every bid.
Bonus Auctions- Discounts do not apply in Bonus Auctions. Each bid in a Bonus Auction will apply an Admin Fee of "x" Bonus Points and the same Point Fee is charged for every bid.
Example:
Admin (Point) Fee: 10 Points
1st Admin Fee: 10 Points
2nd Admin Fee: 10 Points
3rd Admin Fee: 10 Points...and so on.
Is the Admin Fee Refundable?
The Admin Fee is not refundable unless in the case of an auction being cancelled. In this instance all Bidders will receive a full refund of all their Admin Fees charged on that auction.
When will I be charged my Admin Fee?
All Bidders are charged the Admin Fee from their Members Money Box account balance immediately upon the submission of a bid. Upon clicking the "Confirm Bid" button your account will be charged the Admin Fee.
What happens if I win a Bonus Auction and do not have enough points in my account to pay the Winning Bid Amount?
If you end up the winner of a Bonus Auction and find that you do not have enough points in your account to pay the Winning Bid Amount then there are a number of options available to you:
1) You can continue to bid on other auctions and earn more points.
2) You can Refer a Mate and when they sign up you will earn more points.
3) You can Buy Bonus Points.
At such time when you have accumulated enough points to pay for your win, BidMadness will deduct your Winning Bid Amount from your account and arrange to deliver your item to you.
Why am I charged an Admin Fee?
Admin Fees collectively are the basis for a Winning Bidder being able to buy a $AU1000 item for say $5! Every member who places a bid pays this fee which is collectively applied to offset the cost of the product and the considerable costs of maintaining the online and everyday operations of BidMadness.
Will I be charged my Bid Amount if I am not the Winning Bidder?
No. The actual Bid Amount will only be charged to the Winning Bidder upon the closure of the auction for a given item. If you do not win the auction then you do not get charged anything other than the Admin Fee for each bid you placed.

Products

No. There will only be one item available per auction, unless otherwise stated. The same item may however be repeated in future auctions. So if you miss out the first time don't worry because you may have the chance to bid for it again!
Are items really available at up to 95% discount on retail prices?
Yes! Unbelievable but it is true!

Yes! Believe it! All Items are brand new and come in their original box with the original manufacturer’s warranty.
Under no circumstances will we ever auction re-conditioned, second hand or used items.
Can I buy goods directly from BidMadness without bidding
Yes and No! What we mean by this is that you cannot buy any of the products listed as auctions without going through the auction process. ALL auction items must be purchased through the BidMadness auction system as explained on these pages. However, you can purchase products outright when they are listed as a BidMadness MadBuy offer.
BidMadness MadBuy is a feature of BidMadness where we offer incredible products for sale at incredibly low prices. BidMadness MadBuy offers are featured on the homepage and are of limited stock. Once they're gone, they're gone!
Promotions

Will BidMadness run promotions for non-members?
Yes! 'But why should non-members receive benefits?' we hear you ask. The answer is because we want non-members to become BidManiacs too! Of course non-members won't get as many benefits and promotions as our members but they will be entitled to promotions like Coupon Code Bonuses, Bonus Points and Trial Auctions.
What is a Coupon Code?
A Coupon Code is a promotional code given to members or non-members to redeem for Bonus Points and/or Bonus Credits. For example, a non-member may be given a Coupon Code like "Madness123" which can be redeemed for 100 Bonus Points and $10 Bonus Credit upon signing up as a new BidMadness member. A current member could receive a Coupon Code like "Special555" which can be redeemed for 200 Bonus Points if they refer 2 new members within 7 days. These are just two simple examples of how we can issue Coupon Codes. There will be many such promotions on offer so keep your eyes peeled!
Where do I redeem my Coupon Code?
Coupon Codes can be redeemed in two different sections of the website. If you are a member then you can redeem your Coupon in the member's MY ACCOUNTS area under the BIDS & BONUS section. Click on the PROMOTIONS link and then input your code in the field provided. If you are a non-member you can enter your Coupon Code on the JOIN NOW page when you provide your details to become a new member.
What are BM Credits?
BM Credits is the name we give to our two types of free credit promotions. Basically it is money we give back to you for bidding on our auctions and depositing money in your account. BM Credits come in two forms: Auction Credits and Deposit Credits.
Auction Credits
These are typically "SPEND & GET" promotions. For example - Spend $10 bidding on a nominated auction and you will get $5 back in credits. At any particular time BidMadness can promote any auction for any period of time and give you money back for spending a certain amount on bidding on that auction. You can find one of these auctions by looking for a the flashing blue text under the auction product photo. The text will say something like " Spend $10, Get $5 Credit".
Deposit Credits
These are "DEPOSIT & GET" auction promotions. This promotion rewards members with free credits to use to bid with on any auction (except Bonus Auctions). This is how it works. BidMadness will run regular promotions offering members free BM Credits when they deposit money into their member account using PayPal.
For example, the promotion could be as follows: Deposit a minimum of $50 into your account via PayPal and you will receive an additional 20% of extra credits calculated on your deposit amount. So if you deposit $100 into your account you will get an additional $20 added to your original deposit amount, making it a total of $120 added to your account. This additional $20 is called a Deposit Credit and is essentially free money to use on the many great auctions listed on this site.
During a Deposit Credit promotion, each member will receive the benefit for each deposit made into PayPal as long as the deposit meets the minimum level set by the promotion. This means there is no limit as to how many times a member can receive the Deposit Credit.
Members have 3 months to use their BM Credits or they will lose whatever balance remains. However, it would not happen to often where members would not be able to use their free credits in time. After all when the money is free why wouldn't you bid like crazy!!
When can I use my BM Credits?
You will not be able to use any FREE BM CREDITS until you have exhausted all the funds in your regular MONEY BOX. For example: Lets say your MONEY BOX has a $10 balance and you also have $15 of BM CREDITS. As you bid on auctions, the system will first deduct admin fees from your MONEY BOX. Once your MONEY BOX reaches $0 the system will then start to deduct admin fees from your BM CREDITS. When you get to a point where you don't have enough money in your BM CREDITS account, the system will ask you to add more funds into your MONEY BOX, and the cycle starts over again. .
